I was intrigued by the Child Training Bible from the first time I heard about it.
I have seen other printables with scripture verses related to behavior, but I know that in one of “those” moments I would not be apt to grab the list, grab my bible and then sit and search for an applicable verse.
Scripture memorization is not my strong suit, either. I know lots of verses, but not necessarily where to find them.
The Child Training Bible seemed like a better way.
I was blessed to win a Child Training Bible Chart Set from a Twitter Party I recently attended and I was so excited to give it a try.
I grabbed one of hubby’s old bible’s to upcycle, some highlighters and post-it flags and was ready to go!
It takes a couple of hours to get your Child Training Bible set up, but it is worth every minute.
Each behavior listed in the Child Training Bible Chart Set has approximately 8 scripture verses listed in biblical order for you to highlight and tab.
In addition, for each behavior there are questions on the tabbers to help you talk with your kids about the heart issues behind their behavior. There are also some questions to help teach our kids about How Jesus behaved and wants them to behave, too! Finally there are some prayer ideas based on the scripture to pray with our kids at the end of a CTB bible moment.
Billy took one look at the highlighters and post-its and he wanted to get in on the fun! I would find the scripture, highlight and read it out loud and then Billy would help flag the page. It was pretty awesome. He really enjoyed himself and we had a great time investing in God’s word together. Not to mention he felt pretty special that this bible was just for him.
I hadn’t actually planned on that, I planned on it being the family Child Training Bible. The more I think about it, though, that would be a pretty incredible Bible to have to grow up with. ..
Well, I guess I’ll be making more of these in a couple years!
The best thing is that now, if we have a behavior issue that we need to address – a Child Training Bible moment – I simply grab our Child Training Bible, find the matching behavior and flip through to read several scriptures for each behavior. You can just read 2 or 3 if your child is younger, or read through all of them.
It’s immediate, it’s something physical that we can touch and see and open and read (very important when you have a kinesthetic learner!), and it’s God’s word. Mommy isn’t just making this stuff up!
Every home should have a Child Training Bible.
